St Catherines College was built
1960-64 to a striking modernist design by the Danish architect Arne
Jacobsen. The first picture shows the west wing of student accommodation alongside the Water
Garden. The second picture is of the Master's Lodgings west of the Water
Garden. The final two pictures show the east wing of the student
accommodation facing playing fields. The Bell tower between the two wings
can be seen looming up.
The area north of the original
buildings began to be developed in 1992 by Stephen
Hodder when he designed three new staircases of student accommodation alongside the river.
His scheme was completed in 2005 by the addition of further staircases,
seminar rooms, and a new porter's lodge (last picture).
